Day 1

Morning: Arrival in Accra and meeting by your Nomad Africa Host to assist with entry formalities and transfer to hotel. Noon: Off for Ghanaian lunch in Osu. Get a historical orientation on Ghana at the Kwame Nkrumah Maosuleum, after which, take a trip to the interesting Art Center for souvenirs. Back to hotel for relaxation and Dinner.

Day 2

Check out and depart at 8:30 AM for Cape Coast and Elmina, arriving at 10:30. Cape coast is the former capital of Ghana and famous Cape Coast Castle. Transfer to the hotel and have lunch at noon.
Afternoon: explore the historic Elmina Castle and slave fort built by Portuguese in 1482. The fort is UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been restored. After the tour, walk through the harbor and of this coastal fishing town and see the fishermen returning with the afternoon ready for market. Climb the hill to fort St. Jago for a sunset view of the town before returning to the hotel.  

Day 3

Depart at 7:00 AM for the Kakum Rain Forest and National Park. Cross an Aerial-Walkway - 1000 feet with suspension bridges that soar 180feet over the forest floor, affording a view of the tree canopy and early morning bird – watching. After we will take a short hike through the jungle where a ranger will explain some of the plants and trees and how they are used in herbal medicine. Lunch will be at “Boatel”, a restaurant built over a crocodile pond. Here you will also see the antics of weaverbirds and perhaps some of the owner’s monkeys. Early afternoon: return to Accra. Early evening arrival and dinner at your hotel.

Day 4

Depart at 8:00 AM for Lake Volta, the largest man–made lake in the world. Have lunch overlooking the serene Volta River. Enjoy a canoe ride to the Akosombo bridge. Retire to the hotel

Day 5

Option 1: Spend the day and ride on the MV Dodi Princess for a barbecued picnic with live music and great company, berth at the Dwarf Island for a picturesque tour. (Available on weekends).

Option 2: Depart early in the morning for Mount Gemi, the highest human habitation (760 m) in Ghana. Hike up for 30 minutes and witness the spectacular view of the Volta Region from the mountain top.
Take a scenic mountain ride to Wli falls, the highest waterfalls in West Africa for lunch. After lunch, walk through a small path in the rain forest and cross 12 streams in the process to the waterfalls. The water from the cliff descends a height of about 1,600 feet. The forest of the Agumatsa wildlife sanctuary is home to a colony of fruit bats, butterflies, birds, antelopes, monkeys and baboons.

Day 6

Relaxed ride back to Accra  , spend the day shopping at the Accra mall and Oxford Street, Osu.

Day 7

NomadAfrica staff will assist with checkout at the hotel and provide escorts to the airport for your departure.
